Nothing good can come of comparing yourself to others. It’s common in our society to constantly try “keeping up with the Joneses, ” this makes it really easy to be jealous of those who might have more money, have better grades, travel more etc., but you are unique to everyone else in the world, you are not them. You are you! Make a conscious effort every day to be content with what you have and who you are.
A lot of authors recommend practicing contentment and gratitude on a daily basis. Before you go to bed, keep a journal and list 3 things that you were grateful for through the day. This can actually alter the way your brain perceives your day and you’ll find you will begin to feel more and more happy with what you have and not thinking about what you don’t have. This contentment will help you to avoid judgement of others, which can result from feelings of jealousy.
Judging people and talking about someone behind their back is also a bad habit and only points towards our own insecurities. Everyone is different and if we have a problem with someone, we should learn to muster the courage to tell him or her face to face rather than complain behind their back. Most people aren’t aware that something they’re doing is annoying, and they would most likely appreciate you telling them (I know this is much easier said than done).
